Artist Bio

About Katie Kirby

My name is Katie Kirby, and I am a multi-faceted artist. All of the work I produce is cohesive, and it tells a story-as it reflects my life and experiences as they happen. I have a multitude of interests and skills to express exactly who I am and what I want to say to the world through multiple different forms of art, so that it can be experienced by and inspire as many different people as possible-no matter the type of media they consume. I use my art to navigate the turbulences of my life, to turn my emotions, beliefs and stories, especially, into something more beautiful and understandable, and even relatable for others and myself to enjoy. It expresses my personal philosophies or beliefs, and questions the notion of self-identity. As a painter, I’ve coined the term “psychedelic surrealism” to describe much of my work, which features bright colors, dream-like compositions and repeating patterns.

I grew up in Albany, New York, where I was fortunate enough to able to explore and express myself in a variety of different ways. Though art, painting particularly, was the first love of my life, I grew up playing sports, I sang in school choirs, learned the cello, (quit the cello), learned the clarinet, (subsequently quit the clarinet) and taught myself guitar (which actually stuck). I graduated from Bethlehem Central High School in 2020, during covid, in which I was able to rediscover and define my love of painting in between zoom classes. Later that year I went off to college at the University of Richmond to study pre-law. It was there in the few art related classes I took, that I really stated developing my personal artistic style and vision of myself as an artist. I took classes in Sculpting, Painting, Drawing, Printmaking, and Sound/Video Design. I ultimately decided that art was my true passion, and transferred to SCAD in 2022 to further my artistic career.

Since moving to Savannah, I have been able to continue to develop and perfect my crafts further, especially the digital realm. I am now competent in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and After Effects. Additionally, I have made invaluable connections with people in my art field and fields I never even dreamed of  including music production and film. Most recently, I appeared in the upcoming feature film, 'May December' starring Natalie Portman, Charles Melton and Julianne Moore.
